Fresh in through the door after a fantastic day of teaching at the wonderful Tregate Angling Club’s 2024 members’ open day and BBQ. Based on the River Monnow on the Wales/England border, this is a truly fantastic group of passionate anglers who eagerly work to promote wild fish, habitat protection and catch and release. For those who know me, this river is extremely close to my heart, and it was amazing to be able to participate in their annual event.
While I ran the river casting improvement sessions, teaching everything from basic rod mechanics to advanced single-handed Spey casts, the Club’s Patrick Lloyd and Stjohn Milinczuk set about giving the members a closer look at the river’s invertebrate life and feeding the attendees via a jaw-dropping BBQ.
Although I’m exhausted (the dogs in the below image sum up just how exhausted), I’m smiling ear-to-ear after a truly wonderful day teaching on a river so close to my heart, and it is always so amazing to see students beaming after learning new casts and eager for their next outing.
