Guided fly fishing trips for trout and grayling are available on a fantastic range of prime streams and rivers here in the South Wales, as well as a number of upland reservoirs.
As a professional game angling instructor, Wye & Usk Foundation recommended fly fishing guide and, with over 20 years of fly fishing experience, guided excursions are fantastic value and are tailored to your exact needs. You’re the boss for the day, so whether you are brand new to fly fishing and would like to learn the basics, or have been fishing for years and would like to hit a new water running; as the guide standing at your side it will be my goal to get you catching fish (however, this can’t always be guaranteed!).
What We Can Learn
Guided fishing trips allow you learn new techniques, how to read the water in order to quickly identify where trout and grayling might lie, how to put the required leaders, flies, and other terminal-tackle into play and, of course, put the new skills into practice by using balanced outfits, fit for the specific technique.
There are countless styles of fishing techniques around these days, however the below examples are always popular with clients:
- Upstream Dry Fly
- Midges & Micro Flies
- Traditional North Country Spiders
- Fishing the Duo & Trio (aka – New Zealand/’Klink and Dink’ Techniques)
- Nymphing techniques, including a number of European styles (short-line nymphing, nymphing with a French Leader, etc.)
- Small Stream Tactics
- Streamer Fishing
In addition to the above, casting tuition can be built into your guided day at no additional cost.
If you have ever found your confidence knocked due to a heavy downstream wind or a problematic, overhanging branch, this is the perfect time to learn.
I’ll not only be happy to direct your attention to fish feeding areas and the tactics needed to approach them effectively, but you will also have the flies, equipment, and practical knowledge on tap should you wish to call on it.
I currently offer guided fly fishing trips on the below rivers:
