Rory McAllister, 01/07/2013 (Fly Casting Tuition)Hi Gareth,
What can I say…..yesterday’s coaching was top notch. I learnt so much in such a short time, and I’ll always remember the “sheet of paper”; whether or not I master it is another thing! I’ll definitely be practising the roll cast on the Monnow.
I’ll also be keeping my eye on your web page as you are now installed on my favourite list.
Thanks once again and I look forward to the flies.
Rory
Paul Brown, 13/05/2013 (Fly Tying Services)Hi Gareth,
Just received my order of chironomid emergers. Really beautifully tied flies. They look like they will be absolutely deadly!
I’ll certainly be ordering more.
Many thanks,
Paul Brown
Rob Stimpson, 27/08/2012 (Guided Fishing Trip)All in all it was a fantastic day and I really enjoyed myself! It was a beautiful stretch of river stuffed with fish, the equipment provided was top notch and Gareth is a great bloke who really put me ease. It was just like going fishing with an old mate and the hot cuppa’s courtesy of Gareth and his brew kit were a real luxury and a nice touch.
The tuition was first class and at a perfect pace to suit me perfectly. I learned a tremendous amount and my casting has improved no end. Now that I am remembering to drop my elbow and watching my wrist, I am now casting like a pro! Well almost! I learned lots of new techniques which I can now apply to improve my fishing at home. This is exactly what I wanted from the day and achieved this on all counts.
Other than a little less rain I can’t think of any way to improve the day. Gareth was happy to start a bit earlier at my request and finished much later than he should have, so I really got my money’s worth and I have no complaints whatsoever!
Thanks for a great day Gareth!
Rhys Davies, 09/06/2012 (Fly Casting Tuition)I thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and it certainly provided me with a greater understanding of a few issues to improve upon and also confidence in my self taught skills.
The structure and pace of the lesson was great and Gareth’s manner certainly put me at ease thereby improving the learning element. I will certainly be looking to book another session to further improve my casting but to also learn a few new techniques.
I would recommend Gareth to anyone looking to improve or expand on their casting to benefit their fishing.
Roger Miles, 22/05/2012 (Fly Tying Demonstration)Hi Gareth,
I have been to quite a few of the evenings like the one that was held last night at the Hereford Fly Tying Club. Your one I will always remember, it was that good.
I must say that I found your approach wonderful. The whole room was captivated. A real skill you have there, and I know it has been brought about by hard work.
I said to the guy next to me “When he becomes famous, I will be proud to stand up and say, I knew him when he used to laugh at my jokes!”
Thank you for an inspiring night, and great artistry.
Kind regards,
Rog
Robert Denny, 06/05/2012 (Fly Tying Services)In the absence of any sensible chance of fishing the Monnow, Lloyd and I decamped to the Derbyshire Wye. We both fished your tying of the Greenwell/Adams variant, #16 and #18 almost exclusively. On the first day we caught 70 fish and on the second, harder day, 25 between us.
Every fly looked the business and floated perfectly, obviously proved attractive to the wild Browns and Rainbows and all were really durable – none needing to be replaced due to wear and tear, just angler incompetence.
Steve Mills, 04/03/2012 (Guided Fishing Trip / Fly Casting Tuition)Fantastic tuition day which included an introduction to rods, reels, lines and casting lessons; learning about natural fish food types, fish habits and habitats, river craft, fishing techniques and fly types.
Having never fly fished before, Gareth pitched this to suit my learning requirements and the tuition given and progress of the day was tailored to my abilities. By the end of the day I really felt I had learnt a lot and had progressed in developing skills which has given me the confidence to further pursue fly fishing. Gareth was always willing to answer my questions and was ever patient and understanding working with a complete novice.
The lesson certainly met my requirements, was perfectly pitched. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Justin @ The River Beat blog, 19/01/2012 (Fly Tying Services) http://theriverbeat.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-pattern-for-new-season.html
I recently ordered a handful of flies from Gareth Lewis for the upcoming fishing season. I’d seen a few photos of his work on a fly fishing forum and I was impressed. So I ordered a couple of the usual patterns he offers for sale – CDC & Elk, Olive Paraduns and micro Copper Johns and also asked him if he would do a custom job. The fly I had in mind was a very simple yet “buggy” looking midge pattern featured on Tom Sutcliffe’s website, the high-vis CDC Midge. The fly is designed for South African conditions but I noticed Tom mentions the pattern was used with some success on his last trip to the southern chalkstreams, so much so that the locals raided his fly box and took every last one. I suspect it’s a pattern that will work well in most parts of the world. Gareth, who admits to being a bit of a midge fanatic, happily agreed to oblige.
Cheryl Ross, 27/12/2011 (Fly Casting Tuition)We thought [the casting lesson] was great! Gareth explained everything clearly and answered all questions in a way we could understand. I have never held a fly rod before and now I can’t wait to get out there. I will be calling Gareth for my first day trip experience!
Stuart Jenkins, 26/12/2011 (Fly Tying Services)Many, many thanks Gareth for your wonderful selection of flies in a presentation box which my wife gave to me for Christmas. I really haven’t stopped beaming since I had it and can’t stop looking at them, which may make me a bit sad in the eyes of my wife but you’ll understand. On the one hand I can’t wait to try them but on the other, I’m afraid to use them in case I lose any.
Once again, I can’t thank you enough and look forward to seeing you sometime during the new season.
Seasons greetings,
Stuart Jenkins
