Following on from my previous post regarding my attendance at the North Wales Country Fair, I’m also happy to add the below shows to my Events Calendar.
Herefordshire Country Fair – Sunday 7th August 2011
I will be joining the Game Angling Instructors’ Association at this year’s Herefordshire Country Fair, where we will again be providing single and double-handed fly casting tuition for both adults and juniors.
Whether you’re brand new to fly fishing or have been fishing for a number of years, we’ll be excited to show you the ropes or give you a few pointers in regards to a few new casts. Learn from the pros!
While you’re at the fair, you might also be interested in checking out the other great activities taking place. From show jumping, dog trials, falconry, motorcycle stunts, and much more!

North Wales Country Fair – August 13th & 14th 2011
A full description of this event can be seen by visiting my previous news item for the North Wales Country Fair at Bala, however, I’m looking forward to demonstrating and discussing the tying of ‘micro’ flies (specifically micro baetis and midge in both the emerger and adult stages) in sub #20 sizes for use on the rivers of Wales and beyond. I’ll also be discussing the techniques and tackle needed to fish them effectively.
A number of my GAIA colleagues will also be present throughout the entirety of the weekend, and will be providing fly casting tuition and demonstrations for both juniors and adults. Whether you’d like to try and iron out any annoying casting niggles, or are totally brand-new to fly fishing, the guys will be excited to help you along.
I’ll be hunched over a vice all weekend, so if you’re attending the Fair, feel free to drop by for a chat!

The Big Skill at Penpont, Brecon – September 3rd & 4th 2011
In conjunction with the Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association, I will be running a number of fishing orientated activities once again at this year’s Big Skill event, and which takes place at the wonderful Penpont Estate, nr Brecon, on September 3rd & 4th 2011.
We’ll be offering the ‘Full Picture of Fly Fishing’ by showing you the insects direct from the river, how anglers imitate these invertebrates via fly dressing, and you can even have a try at fly tying yourselves! We will also be offering professional fly casting lessons and, of course, there’ll be a chance for the youngsters to try out a little fly fishing on the wonderful River Usk!
This fantastic weekend event isn’t just about fishing; there will be a wide range of activities and outdoor skills workshops taking place for people of all ages to try. From basket weaving to wood turning, to stained glass, fishing, bushcraft and survival skills. There’ll be something for everyone!
